Fandomderp's Questions

1. What is your favorite season?
I would say it's a toss-up between summer and winter — summer because I get to relax from school and chill in the beautiful weather, or winter because snow is beautiful and fun to play in.

2. If you were a planet, which would you be?
I'm going to be a super nerd here and say Kepler-186f because it's the first exo-solar planet that we've found that's in the "habitable zone" of a star — which is essentially the area surrounding a sun that can host liquid water. It represents the possibility of life outside of our own pale blue dot, and that possibility excites me more than you will ever understand.

3. Countryside, city or beach?
City — but more specifically, in the suburbs ^_^

4. What movie genre are you into?
Science Fiction, for the win!

5. Favorite book / author?
Favorite book (series) is hands-down, Harry Potter. If not series, then probably The Martian by Andy Weir.

6. Favorite song / artist? (Sorry for all the favorites!)
TheFatRat

7. If you could improve one of your skills overnight, what would it be?
Picking up social cues better. My friends constantly tease me about being "oblivious" and while it's funny to laugh along, it can be frustrating to always be late to the joke.

8. The first classic song to come to mind GO!
Concerto in A Minor, Edvard Grieg.

9. If you were to be one of the elements (Air, Fire, Water, Earth) which would you be and why?
I honestly don't know. I personally have always loved water and can be very chill/relaxed, but my friends would probably say fire suits my mood-swings and ambition xD

10. First anime you had gotten into and a rating on it now?
Sword Art Online. I only watched up until episode 14 because all of my friends said that after that it sucked, so rating up until then would probably be about an 8/9 out of 10.

11. Current favorite anime.
Nagi no Asukara! <3

12. If you could have one superpower what would it be and why?
The ability to control time. There are so many things you could do if you had infinite time and infinite redos at your disposal.

13. DC or Marvel? (Bonus: if you like either, what character from it is your favorite?)
Neither, because I don't know any characters from nor have read/watched either xD

uncommon-girl's tag

Name 10 of your favourite characters from 10 different fandoms.

1. Orihara Izaya - Durarara!!
2. Chisaki Hiradaira - Nagi no Asukara
3. Levi Ackerman - Attack on Titan
4. Chitanda Eru - Hyouka
5. Miyazono Kaori - Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso
6. Ayato Kirishima - Tokyo Ghoul
7. Emi Yusa - Hataraku Maou-sama
8. Akashi Seijuro - Kuroko no Basuke
9. Yato - Noragami
10. Touma Kazusa - White Album 2

My Questions!

1. Something (or someone) that can always make you smile, even if you feel absolutely awful.

2. Favorite emoji and why?
3. You're walking down a path when you come across a fork in the road. One path leads to the beach, another leads to a forest, the third leads to a small cottage, and the last leads to a distant castle. Which path do you choose, and why?
4. Favorite channel on Youtube?
5. Cats or dogs?
6. Outside of rewriting this tag, what are you doing?
7. Brush or comb?
8. Got any ideas for dorm decorating?
9. You have a choice between eating pizza or eating pasta for the rest of your life. Which one do you choose?
10. Worst anime you have ever seen in your life?
11. You win the lottery and get a million dollars. How do you spend it?
12. You can go back in time to tell yourself 1 thing. When would you go back in time, and what would you tell yourself?
13. Do you consider us friends? If not... would you like to be my friend? <3

Okay, I never write rant journals, but this is something that's been aggravating me ever since I first started writing (no, actually. even before that.), so I'm just going to be blunt and say it right here. Right now.

(I apologize in advance if I end up offending some people, but I'd like to get this off of my chest ^_^)

A story does not have to be angsty, deep, or profound to be good.

Do there exist stories that are angsty, deep, or profound that are good? Of course! Many of those stories are, because it's one of the easiest ways to tug at an audience's heartstrings. In fact, the majority of angsty/deep/profound stories I've read go beyond "good" and approach "amazing" or "fantastic".

However, it doesn't have to be an angsty, deep, or profound story in order to be a good story.

Some of the best stories I've ever read in my life are stories that are light-hearted and funny—stories written purely for the purpose of making people laugh, forget their day's troubles, and just brighten their day for a little while. I know crack stories that suck, crack stories that are just as good as angsty stories, and I know crack stories that blow generic angsty stories out of the water.

(for example, have you ever read "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"? it's one of the most hilarious and most amazing books I've ever read in my life, capable of making me simultaneously burst into laughter and ponder the meaning of life.)

I guess I should provide some context as to why I'm bringing this up, huh?

Well, after posting my last story (Luckless) about a week ago, I recently received a note about how I should be "ashamed" of writing Attack on Titan such a light hearted manner because the "deep" character of Levi is going to waste. Before that, I got a couple complaints about my Haikyuu crack story, saying that Oikawa's background called for something more "profound". Before that, I've also been insulted by people who think my stories are shit because I apparently don't know how to "add depth".

These were all by different people, by the way.

Before even getting direct complaints, I've always noticed a startling disparity between the attitudes towards angsty stories and crack-ish stories. The main example directly off the top of my head is: I've rarely ever seen stories that are crack in nature win contests, even if they're really, really good—often better than some of the stories that actually earned awards. I'm serious.

Honestly, I feel like there's this general perception that angsty stories are just inherently better, and anyone who disagrees is automatically labeled as someone not "profound" enough to appreciate tragedy. As an anime-loving, self-proclaimed, deranged fangirl, I get so much flack for this, and I sure many of you have experienced this as well. Remember that time when you were too embarrassed to say you liked some particular anime or story or video or drawing or whatever simply because it isn't considered "deep" or "complex" or "abstract" by society's standards?

By this point, I'm not even talking about just dA anymore. Whenever I say something along the lines of "I thought [insert some tragic novel here] was good, but I didn't like it as much as [insert really funny comedy story]." to my friends or my classmates, I immediately get appalled gasps and horrified looks from the people around me.

In fact, I'm actually in the midst of writing college application essays, and I've been told by my peers to not writing "funny" essays because they can make me look shallow. Yet, an essay that I wrote for Tulane University was borderline crack, and it got me accepted with a full ride. Someone must have thought it was pretty good, no?

Anyway...

//deep sigh

I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't rule out a funny story just because it isn't "profound" in the way that angst stories are. I mean, I'll admit I'm guilty of this pretty often, too. It's pretty easy to think of yourself as a profound person if you can read and appreciate a good angst story, yeah?

But I've read so many hilarious stories with subtle humor that takes a good two or three reads (sometimes even more than that!) to actually catch and understand the little things that make the story absolutely hilarious. Sometimes, I'll pull out an old crackish story I haven't read for a while, and I'll discover a lot of new things that I'd missed my first read through. I'll admit, I've tried to do that in my own stories, but I feel like they often get looked over and disregarded because people read it once, laugh for a second, and then walk away and never give it another thought—simply because it's labeled as "humor" or "crack".

So yeah.

Don't brush off light-hearted stories too easily, okay? They can be really deep, too.

I'm late, but this raffle is closed! Winners will be posted tonight! <3

Introduction

Hello there, and welcome to my raffle!

I'm holding this event in honor of reaching 200 watchers—a milestone I honestly cannot believe I've reached.

Before I give out the details of this raffle, I'd like to take a moment to say thank you. This past week has been really rough, and I'm ashamed to say I haven't taken the time to be as active here on dA as I would have liked. Yet despite that, you guys have stuck with me and offered words of encouragement when you were not obligated to do so. With every notification I received, I found a little more strength to simply make it through the day. For that, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I love every single one of you guys, even if I don't know you personally or have never spoken to you one on one. But every time I get a notification, whether it be for a watch, comment, or favorite, I explode a little bit with joy.

I know I don't take the time to thank each of you individually (partially because I don't want to spam your profile xD) please know that you mean the world to me.

I will choose 3 winners though a number generator and they will receive:
