Levi Ackerman x Fem!Reader
(Attack on Titan | Modern AU)
Warning: Somewhat crackish.

The bright sunlight streaming through the cracks in your blinds warmed your cheek, and you awoke to the happy chirps of the birds outside your window. Mumbling incoherently, you turned over so that the sunlight wasn't shining obnoxiously in your face, allowing your cozy bed to slowly lull you back to sleep. You sighed in contentment as you managed to find the perfect position, snuggling deeper into your little burrow.

The tranquility of the morning continued, and you weren't sure how long you just stayed there, half-conscious, half-unconscious.

All you were aware of was the wonderful warmth around you and the extremely comfortable cushions of the bed.

Bang.

You were—rather rudely—startled out of your sleep as your roommate barged in.

"Can you believe him?!"

You shot up from your position as Hanji began to pace around the room, watching wide-eyed as she ranted.

"I have a dissection planned this weekend!" she raged as you rubbed your eyes blearily, "and then Professor Erwin goes and assigns a million tons of homework!"

Your breath caught.

"What?!" you shrieked.

Hanji nodded furiously, "Exactly! Isn't it ridiculous?"

You shook your head frantically, kicking off the sheets entangling your legs and bolting out of bed. You stumbled up to your roommate, taking her by the shoulders and shaking her violently. "You already had Biology?!" you demanded, panic welling up in your throat.

"Y-Yeah?!"

"And it wasn't moved earlier or anything?!

"Y-Yea-ah?"

You abruptly stopped your shaking. You walked back to your bed and collapsed face first onto the mattress.

"I'm an awful person," you moaned, voice slightly muffled.

Hanji blinked, her fury at her professor momentarily forgotten.

"...you are?"

"Yes!" you exclaimed as you turned onto your side and curled into a ball, tears beginning to well up in your eyes. "I missed my Physics lecture," you whimpered in between your sniffles, "OhmygodI'msuchanawfulperson—"

"[Name]."

"—I didn't uphold my responsibility as a student and now my professor is going to hate me forever—"

"[Name]..."

"—and now I'm gonna fail the class and drop out of college and become a homeless person and god dammit why did my stupid alarm clock not wake me up—"

"[Name]!"

"—what?!"

"...you realize that your professor probably won't even know you were gone, right?"

Silence fell in the dorm room.

"R-Really?" you asked uncertainly, lifting your tear-smudged face from your sheets.

Hanji rolled her eyes, walking over to her own bed and pulling out her anatomy textbook. "It's a huge class. I doubt your professor bothered with attendance."

You blinked. "Oh."

Hanji was right.

Hanji shook her head, throwing herself onto her unmade bed and diving into her world of bleeding body parts. You sniffled a few more times and grabbed a tissue, blowing your nose loudly.

Feeling disgusting, you finally pried yourself away from your sheets and stumbled into the bathroom. As soon as you'd shut the door behind you, you splashed water directly into your face, some of the droplets splashing onto your hair or dripping down onto your PJs. As you began to brush your teeth, you absently wondered what you would do now. You'd never missed a lecture before, so you weren't quite sure what you were supposed to do with yourself.

It felt weird—missing class.

Suddenly, a giggle built up in your throat and bubbled past your lips. You felt almost... naughty. You would never admit it to anyone else, but skipping class was without a doubt one of the worst things you'd ever done in your life. Cause, you know, you were a good girl like that.

You finished freshening yourself up, humming a happy tune under your breath as you threw your PJs onto your unmade bed. You'd clean it up later. Right now, you were starving! Normally, you'd grab something to eat before heading to class, but that was hours ago, and your stomach was growling its protest.

The cafeteria was basically empty at this point, breakfast having 'unofficially' ended a while ago. There were still a few stragglers though—mostly students who had slept in like you did.

A light feeling in your chest, you loaded up a plate, happily paid for it, and plopped down at one of the many empty tables.

Breakfast had never tasted so delicious.

Absently, as you chewed on your toast, you wondered what on earth you would do with yourself. Maybe you could drop by that cute little bookstore that had opened the other day? Or maybe you could meet a couple friends to study for upcoming tests? While you were at it, you could go over your notes...

...oh crap.

You paled.

Notes! How were you going to get notes from your physics lecture?! Your professor loved to follow his own curriculum, so your textbook would next to useless! Plus, you realized with growing horror, you didn't know anyone from that class all that well! You dropped the piece of toast you were holding, instead burying your face into your hands, too upset to notice the crumbs on your fingers wiping the bits of food onto your cheek.

"I'm going to die," you moaned.

"Oi, are you alright?"

You jerked at the sudden voice, head snapping upwards in shock. Bored eyes, thin physique, short stature. Recognition dawned on your features.

"Levi!" you blurted out before you could stop yourself.

Levi raised an eyebrow, looking faintly amused. He was chewing on an apple—clearly having dropped by the cafeteria for an after class snack.

"Yes," he replied lightly, "That is my name."

You flushed in embarrassment. Of course you knew his name! In fact, you were pretty sure everyone knew his name—

But no! That wasn't the issue at hand! Levi was actually in the same lecture that you were; you vaguely remembered him sitting not far from you in the large lecture hall, and from what you could recall, he usually took rather detailed notes. Not to mention, he was hailed as one of the greatest students Survey Corps University had ever had in their long history. People would kill to get his notes.

So really, there was no reason to expect him to hand them over. After all, why would he? You were just a lowly, average student—

"...are you going to say something or are you just going to sit there?"

His wry tone snapped you out of your thoughts. If possible, your cheeks flushed even darker.

Well, it was too late now.

"U-Uh," you oh-so-intelligently started.

You tried to ignore the amusement in his eyes.

"CanIborrowyournotesfromPhysicsthismorning?"

Levi blinked. Then frowned. "What?" he asked slowly, perplexity flashing across his handsome features.

You coughed lightly, looking away and raising a hand to rub sheepishly at your neck. "Can I borrow your notes from Physics this morning?" you repeated in a small voice, glancing up briefly to shoot him a desperate look. "I, um. I kinda overslept."

At this point, it was impossible to miss the amused expression on his face. "[Name] [Surname]? Missing a day of class?" he chuckled, and you swore you felt your cheeks heat up even more (was that even possible?!). He smirked. "What has the world come to?"

"S-Shut up!" you snapped, embarrassed. His smirk only grew. "Come on, please?" you pleaded, shooting him the most miserable look you could scrounge up. "I-I'll give them back as some as I can!"

He chewed thoughtfully on his apple for a moment, and you felt your face fall slightly at his silence. But then, to your utter surprise, he shrugged.

"Alright, sure."

Your jaw dropped, and a happy grin bloomed across your face.

"Thank you so much!" you crowed, beaming at him as he set his apple down to rummage through his bag. After a moment, he pulled out a notebook and handed it to you.

Your eyes widened. "No, no," you protested hastily, "I only need today's notes!"

He stared at you. "Well, I'm not going to rip the pages out."

Oh.

You could have slapped yourself for your stupidity.

"A-Ah!" you yelped, "I understand! It's just— I don't want to take all of your notes! What're you going to study?"

Levi shrugged. "As long as you give it back before next class, I'll be fine. Not to mention," he added, raising an amused eyebrow at you, "normally people wouldn't complain when they're being given a notebook full of notes."

"I'm not complaining," you assured him, clutching the notebook to your chest. "But really, thank you so much!"

Levi nodded, picking back up his apple and striding away, but not before responding. "Yeah, no problem. Room's 301, once you're done. See you around, [Name]."

You stood there for a moment, watching his retreating back.

"See you..." you finally murmured to yourself. Quickly, you scurried back to your dorm so you could copy down his notes.

As soon as you got back to your room, you threw yourself down onto your unmade bed and fished out your own Physics notebook to start copying. Hanji was currently nowhere in sight, and you supposed she'd just gotten bored of studying and decided to head out instead. You didn't mind. It meant that you had the peace and quiet all to yourself.

You found your respect for Levi growing with every page you copied.

His notes were literally some of the most perfect things you'd ever seen in your life.

You swore that some of the information he'd jotted down were clearer than the lectures from the professor himself. Though, you noted with amusement, Levi sometimes drew in the margins of his notes. You supposed a genius of his caliber would probably pick up the concepts incredibly quickly, and you guessed that he'd probably gotten bored as the professor took the time to explain to the other students' questions.

You glanced at the clock. It had only been about an hour since you'd gotten the notebook, and you were willing to bet Levi wasn't planning on getting it back anytime soon. You stared at the notebook in front of you warily.

To snoop or to not snoop...

Hm.

After an internal debate that honestly did not last very long, you shrugged to yourself and began flipping through the notebook from the very beginning.

There were... actually a lot of doodles.

Among them, you picked out a few favorites: a sketched tea pot with anime styled wings, a freakishly tall Levi figure, and cleaning supplies drawn with remarkable accuracy.

You never knew Levi knew the exact design, shape, and size of the Windex logo.

With every new drawing you came across, your amusement only grew.

It seemed you'd discovered a whole new facet to the 'mysterious' and 'dark' persona of the famed Levi Ackerman. He'd always been an enigma, someone who everyone wondered about and admired from afar. His normally blank expression drew the curiosity of everyone around him, and despite his short stature, girls tended to swoon over his incredibly good looks. You personally didn't know him all that well, but you'd gone out with Hanji's friends a couple times—a group that Levi was surprisingly a part of. Every now and then, he'd nod a greeting at you if you passed each other around campus, and you remembered once being in his lab group in Physics.

But even then, you were amazed at this new discovery.

You didn't know how long you laid there, absently flipping through the notebook, glancing through the doodles, and occasionally peeking at his wonderfully written notes.

Then, towards the end of the notes, you spied a list of sorts. Immediately, your attention was piqued. It was written pretty recently, you mused, considering it was on things that your professor had covered only a couple classes ago.

Hanji Ackerman Too crazy. Would dissect me in my sleep.

You recoiled. What the hell?!

Your jaw dropped. There was a whole list of them! Each one of them was scratched out, a line of neat handwriting next to them. A handwriting that you'd become very, very acquainted with in the past couple hours.

Petra Ackerman Heard she's moving next month.

Mikasa Ackerman Has a sister complex.

Sasha Ackerman She'd eat me into debt.

Annie Ackerman Pretty sure she's in a gang.

Krista Ackerman All the guys + Ymir would kill me.

Ymir Ackerman Would cheat on me with Krista.

[Name] Ackerman

What the hell?!

You felt dizzy, and you were pretty sure you could fry and egg on your face.

Levi didn't just doodle when he was bored, you realized.

He daydreamed.

Holy shit.

Almost like in a trance, you gently shut the notebook, walked out of your room, and head directly for Levi's dorm.

---

"Hold on!"

Levi growled at the persistent knocking on his door. He tossed the rag he was using to dust into the kitchen sink, wiping his hands with a paper towel as he moved to answer the door.

He pulled it open, ready to give whatever underclassman who dared to bother him the tongue-lashing of a lifetime.

But to his utter surprise, [Name] stood there with a strangely blank expression on her face.

He blinked.

She blinked right back at him.

"Uh," she began, "I finished?"

Levi watched as she glanced down at the notebook clutched tightly in her small hand. To his bemusement, her face suddenly turned a bright red, and she shook her head frantically, not looking at him as she shoved the notebook in his direction.

Levi eyed her warily.

Why was she acting so weird?

Well, he knew she had always been a rather quirky person; he'd come to know that rather well after his past few weeks of casually observing her during his Physics class. Initially, he'd paid her no mind, but after hanging out with her during one of the 'get-togethers' that Hanji loved to organize and rope him into, he'd found she was actually pretty cool, if a little strange.

But now she was acting even stranger than she normally did.

Slowly, he extended a hand and accepted the proffered notebook.

"...are you alright?" he finally asked.

[Name] blushed even brighter, if that was possible.

She nodded slowly, not looking at him. Then she paused, glanced up at him quickly, then dropped her gaze once more and shook her head side to side rapidly.

"Not alright then," he guessed.

Silence fell between the two.

Levi wondered what on earth was wrong with the girl. He was about to give up on trying to figure her out and shut the door in her face when she suddenly burst out.

"Doyouwannagogetsomecoffeewithme?"

Levi blinked.

She blinked right back at him.

"What?" he asked after moment. He stared at her nervously fidgeting form in surprise, not quite sure if he'd heard her right.

[Name] looked away first, face redder than a tomato. "D-Do you want to," she swallowed, and he watched, fascinated, as she twirled a strand of her hair with a slender finger, "Do you want to get some coffee...?"

Levi stared.

And he stared some more.

Then, to her utter surprise, he shrugged.

"Alright, sure."

He watched in amusement as [Name]'s jaw dropped and her eyes widened. He could feel his own lips quirking when she began to grin at him.

"Starbucks, then?" she asked.

Levi nodded, falling into step with her. "If I may ask though," he began, "what brought this on?"

[Name] flushed and looked away. She mumbled something under her breath—something Levi didn't quite catch.

"I couldn't hear that," he informed her lightly.

She cleared her throat and muttered, "I-If we get married," Levi froze, "then I'm keeping my last name."

It clicked.

His notes.

Oh.

Well, shit.
